  1. Congratulations on launching your podcast, Susan! I got chills listening to your beautiful voice in your opening statements. LOVE IT.
I too have struggled with produce bags, especially now that I can’t lick my fingers due to wearing a mask. Now I walk nonchalantly over to the lettuce area and touch the edge of the display with my fingertips, and voila! I can open those elusive bags with ease. Another shopper once saw me do that and said, “Thank you! I wondered if there was an easy way to open these bags.” Encouragement abounds if we’re listening!

    1. Love your voice, Susan. Nice job!

I’ve never liked licking my fingers at the grocery store, even before COVID. My solution is to use the water from the spouts in refrigerated produce section. There are always stray droplets after a fresh spritzing.

    2. Wow, thank you so much, Alice!
Great tip about the lettuce display. I’ll have to try that on my next trip to the grocery store – especially the nonchalantly part.
And way to share your idea and encourage someone just by creating an observable opportunity. Who knows how many others benefited but didn’t say anything?
Encouragement does indeed abound if we’re listening!

  2. Susan — I agree with the others who said they loved hearing your voice! YOU SAY SO MUCH with so few words. I love this. I love your idea of a podcast. You have a voice which is easy to listen to. And yes, I TOO HAVE STRUGGLED WITH THOSE BAGS!! I did Instacart for about 3 months earlier this year and have learned which stores have the easiest and which the hardest to open. Weird I’d know those facts. Also, I learned how to quickly open bags in any of the stores. I loved the way you included details in your story which rooted us into it, and gave us the picture of the moment. Also, the line, “The asparagus wasn’t getting any younger…” It is a classic Brehmer humor line. I love your humor. This will get you out there for your voice is magic and beautiful. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Brian! Sounds like you acquired some practical research on the bags and a useful skill. I’m certainly learning some helpful tips in this thread. Thank you for listening. Your insights about the podcast are encouraging.

  3. Susan, I love your first podcast!! Your voice always brings me hope and joy and humor, and now you are sharing your soul with anyone that finds you and chooses to listen to you. Thanks for your short, sweet and “tasty” words.

  4. Oh Susan – This is so you.

Congratulations on your first podcast. Simple tasks are sometimes so hard are they not?!

Read this yesterday and it reminded me of you and all the work you have put into this new adventure
“May the Lord give you an unwavering confidence that you can do anything He calls you to do and it will be blessed.”

    1. Linda, so good to hear from you! Thank you for once again encouraging and affirming. God’s timing through you is always perfect.

    2. What a wonderful podcast, Susan! As Linda said above, “this is so you!”

Love the story and your message as well as the snippets of humor! I look forward to listening to the next one!

  5. Oh, Susan. I love your story. Just being engaged in the little stresses of life can produce a kindness that makes a difference. It gives me a little thrill to consider how I can reach out for Him in any situation. Even in the produce aisle!

Nicely told, too. You have a lovely, restful voice with just the right amount of joy bubbling over.

    Well done!
